Hazizan Md Akil | Universiti Sains Malaysia | Malaysia
Professor Hazizan Md Akil is a full professor at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) since 2012. His research interest is polymer composites. He joined the School of Materials & Mineral Resources Engineering, USM in year 2002 after completing his PhD at University of Liverpool, United Kingdom under the supervision of Professor Wesley Cantwell in the same year. Hazizan has an international reputation in Polymer Composites, Impact mechanics and Sandwich sturctures, typically in areas such as nanocomposites, natural fibre composites, low velocity impacts and sandwich structures design. Currently, he leads several research projects across a number of universities in Malaysia, Italy, UK and Qatar that aims to assess the feasibility of natural fibre reinforced composites for various industries such as automotives, building and construction, recreational, outdoor and offshore applications. To date, he has given 17 invited talks at various international conferences including NATO Workshop in Kiev, Ukraine in 2009, Kerala, India (2010), Guimaraes, Portugal (2013), Wuhan, China (2013), Rome, Italy (2013). He has published 130 journal articles (ISI-Indexed and Scopus cited). Currently, he serves as an editorial board member and editors for various international and national journals namely Materials and Design (Elsevier since 2009), Asian Journal of Applied Science, (Science Alert, New York, USA), Science International (Science International Dubai, UAE), International Journal of Polymer and Technologies (Serials Publications, New Delhi, India), Asian Journal of Materials Science, Science Alert (New York, USA), Trends in Applied Science Research, Science Alert (New York, USA), Malaysian Polymer Journal (PRIM), Journal of Applied Sciences (Science Alert, New York, USA), Guest Editor: Advances in Materials Science and Engineering (Special Issue: Advanced Composites with Natural Reinforcement, Hindawi Publishing Corporation (New York, USA), Guest Editor: Advances in Materials Science and Engineering (Special Issue: High strain rate mechanical behaviour of polymers and polymer based materials), Hindawi Publishing Corporation (New York, USA) and International Journal of Material Science Innovations (IJMSI). Hazizan has supervised 17 PhD students of which 7 of them have graduated. At MSc level, Hazizan has supervised 25 MSc students of which 24 of them have graduated.
